Contrasting coasts

At the beginning of December we were down in the south of England for a few days. We visited some friends in Sussex and on the way stopped off in Brighton and walked along the pier.Last week, one month later almost to the day we walked along Ardmair Bay on the north west coast of Scotland. I love the contrast between these two places. I love Ardmair Bay at any time of year and mostly I love Brighton Pier - but there is something that both attracts and repels me, standing at the end of the Pier, on a cold winters day listening to a cacophony of sound blaring from loud speakers to no one in particular hoping to entice people like us on the empty 'Wild River Flume'
But Brighton Pier is a wonderful place to watch the Starlings return just before dusk to roost. I failed miserably to get any decent photos of them swooping the loop. But Starling 'Murmurations' as I think they're called can be spectacular to watch. There were just a few hundred of them when we were there last month but it was still exciting to see.

Hi Ann, great contrasts, love the post!! Brighton is ok for a days visit, we met some friends there in the Summer. We were going to go there the Saturday before Christmas but it was too wet and cold. I hope sometime we will get up your way to really appreciate the beauty although you always show it so well in your photographs, that I feel we are there with you!. We are visiting Portmeirion, and surrounding area in the Summer with Snowdon so hopefully we will see some beauty there.
Love Jackie.

Love both sets of photos but know where I would rather be!

What a contrast between your pictures. I have to say a prefer the wildness of Scotland if I had to choose between them. Watching the starlings must have been quite an experience especially watching them from the Pier.

Wonderful contrasts, and like your other commenters so far I would also choose Scotland. There is something very desolate about winter 'entertainment', isn't there? By coincidence I've just posted about a similarly forlorn bit of Edinburgh.

So impressed by your camera, by the way!

Wonderful contrasts, thank you. Very useful to look at things like this now and then, and really appreciate what's on your doorstep. And also very refreshing to go and visit somewhere so different! One day I may go and visit the North East again, and remind myself what it was like (drier, no mud, and sooooo cold!).
