Building the garage

The garage is filling up - but not with car. The car can only look on longingly at what might have been!
The bikes, kindling for the fire and the freezer move in. Shelves, tools, paint, garden furniture and much more to follow
We had lots of help from kind neighbours in erecting the garage

and a young son (with the support of lovely Anna) provided light
We still have the groundwork to do around the house. We still need to paint the garage and  tile the roof so it's in keeping with the house. But I love it and I can't tell you what an enormous huge difference it makes having another area  to store things. I keep going out to stand and stare at all the space, even though I know it will only be a matter of weeks before we need more!

Our garage is full and the car never sees the inside of it either. They make great storage areas!!! Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Well done to all! It looks fantastic. I feel sorry for the car, but I know how easy it is to fill the garage. Can you tell me about the freezer? I have a fridge/freezer in my garage which fluctuates in temperature due to the weather. It is only 12 months old, but I'm told that fridges & freezers are not supposed to operate in garages any more. Take care. Di xx

Well this is all very familiar. Lovely, lovely space! There is a family with 3 children a few houses along from us, which puts its car in the garage every night. I marvel at how they manage to do that.

Hello Diane
I hope the freezer will be ok. It's a danish make 'Vestfrost' and is supposed to tolerate being in a garage or outbuilding. I read that that fridge/freezers are less likely to operate well in garages than a chest freezer, I'll let you know - watch this space!
Can you email me your email address please? x

No car in our garage either! Yours looks fit to live in.

Great job, I'm impressed. We're lucky, our cars are fairly small and our garage is oversized so they both fit in. Good luck on the roof tiling.

We've never had a problem with out chest freezer in the garage - not even over the last two severe winters. I think we have given up any pretence of ever putting a car in the garage - there just isn't room!

My car won't fit in my garage, either, which is pathetic, since it is just me living here! I want to live in your house in that amazing place. It is all truly lovely!

Hooray garage photo's! We've been looking froward to seeing these. Looks like you've done a good job. Just give us the nod and i'll get the painting troops together again - it'll be a quick job without soffits or dormers. Just cutting in and splashing out xx

Looks like an old-fashioned barn raising! I'm sure it will be a Very Good Garage, for all the good feelings and love that have gone into its construction. I don't possess a garage, but if I did, I sure wouldn't waste it on my CAR.

One way to get more space is to hang the bikes. use a pully wheel system and rope, with a line cleat on the wall and the bikes can be overhead out of the way and then are easy to raise and lower. Im sure all your clever helpers could rig something for you. Very nice space, wish I had one!

Oh my goodness, look at THAT VIEW! So spectacular. I can only imagine what it'd feel like to have that beauty greet me everyday.
